Pilbara

'Kedela wer kalyakoorl ngalak Wadjak boodjak yaak.'
Today and always, we stand on the traditional land of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Western facing cliffs set aglow by the setting sun, deep red tones of the heart of an ancient untamed land. This is the Pilbara, a wide-open wilderness of rustic, prehistoric beauty rich in minerals and traditional history dating back over 40,000 years. A land of many stories - myth, legend, glory and hardship from the aboriginal custodians, to colonial adventurers and prospectors, to the pearlers and miners.

Follow the trail of the Warlu (sea serpent) who rose from the crystalline, turquoise ocean and made its way through this sacred land of ravishing gorges and across sunbaked soil-forming waterways and leaving waterfalls as he moved along.

There are four routes for you to explore...

The Coastal Route - Starting at Nanutarra Roadhouse in the south this route traverses the amazing coastline linking Onslow, Karratha, Dampier, Point Samson, and Port Hedland by sealed roads taking in the turquoise wonders of the Dampier Archipelago and ending at Pardoo Roadhouse in the north.

Inland Route - Travelling across the heart of the Pilbara from Nanutarra Roadhouse, visit Cheela Plains Station Stay which is a working Cattle Station offering a respite to the long days driving. Continue on through Paraburdoo and on to Tom Price. Karijini is the next destination along the route with her spectacular Hamersley Range, rugged landscapes, stunning gorges, breathtaking waterfalls and refreshing natural pools. It then connects onto the Great Northern Highway and leads you up north to the Coastal Route close to Port Hedland.

Manuwarra Red Dog Highway - A link between the Coastal and Inland Waru Way Routes. The name honours the famous 'Pilbara wanderer' red dog and the Yindjibarndi name for Red Dog Gorge. It provides easy access from Karratha to Millstream Chichester National Park, Karijini and Tom Price.

East Pilbara Geoheritage Route - An adventurous trip between Karijini, Newman and Port Hedland via Nullagine and Marble Bar. It has sections of unsealed roads and takes you through the land with some of the oldest rocks in the world.
